Dr. John Batchelor is a nationally recognized independent consultant for educational leadership and school improvement. Prior to July 2009, Batchelor worked intensively with low performing districts across the country through the Center for Data Driven Reform in Education at Johns Hopkins University and the Success for All Foundation in Baltimore, MD.
Before becoming a consultant, Batchelor was a teacher and administrator in North Carolina public schools for 30 years and served as superintendent in two districts. Under his leadership, each of the schools in the last of these districts (one of the 12 lowest achieving districts of the 117 in the State) moved from "Warning Status" under the state accountability model to a rating of "Exemplary" on the basis of student achievement in the state testing program. This district was not only one of only nine in the state to achieve a 100% "Exemplary" rating during Batchelor's tenure, but was also the largest and most disadvantaged of this elite group.
Batchelor was a Hodnett Doctoral Fellow and holds a doctorate in educational leadership and history from North Carolina State University. He also holds M.A. and A.B. degrees in history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Guilford College, where he was awarded the Newlin History Department Scholarship. Batchelor's publications include articles in the fields of history, personnel management and educational leadership, as he has also published history textbooks and instructional materials."
